Kung Fu

Category: Sports
Welcome to Kung Fu, one of Imperial’s oldest martial arts societies! We have three clubs: Shaolin, Wu Shu Kwan, and Wing Chun, which each train their own unique style of Kung Fu. In Shaolin, you will learn a blend of traditional Shaolin forms and Chinese kickboxing. Wu Shu Kwan also covers techniques from ancient Chinese kung fu, but mixes them with moves more similar to modern western Kickboxing, whereas Wing Chun involves close-quarter fighting with simultaneous attack and defence. If you’re unsure which is for you, just give it a go! Beginners are always welcome, and no martial arts experience is needed to get started. Each class is between 1.5-3 hours in length and will be led by expert instructors in the chosen style, who will teach you a range of techniques from kicks to elbows to all kinds of punches to get you fighting fit and equip you with practical self-defence skills. You may also get the opportunity to train with a variety of weapons to enhance your skill as you progress. Classes typically will begin with warm-ups and conditioning, before moving on to pad work, form work, and sparring, and will usually end with some relaxation drills to cool down. Your first session will always be free with no sign-ups required, so if you are curious about what to expect, come along and try it out for yourself!
