It’s March, which can only mean one thing… it’s elections season! On every campus and on every social media platform, thousands of students are vying for your vote.
But why should you bother?
1. Elected students have the power to make a difference to your time at Imperial. Every student who is looking for your vote could, in some way, shape your university experience. Society and club committees can shape how you have fun and engage in your favourite activities, student reps champion your voice across the College, and the Officer Trustees are heard at the highest levels of university management - as well as directing how your Union is governed.
2. The Union is changing, and it needs strong student leadership. Imperial College Union is growing in capacity all the time, and so is the student body it represents. You have the opportunity to decide who will take the reigns and ensure that your Union is prioritising your interests. The Officer Trustees direct every aspect of our union life - from how our Advice Service is run to the pints in the bar, so it’s important that the right people take it forward.
3. Our leaders must be elected by you. One of Imperial College Union’s core values is democracy, and it is fundamental that our leaders are chosen by our members, for our members. The candidates have written their manifestos with you in mind, so it’s up to you to choose who should take the roles.
4. It’s really, really easy… It only takes a couple of minutes! There’s nothing like exercising your democratic right on the way to grab a coffee, in between labs or on the way to FiveSixEight!
Voting opens at 09:00 on Monday 13 March and closes at 14.00 on Thursday 16 March. Find out more about your candidates and decide who gets your vote.
And to everyone standing - good luck! It takes a lot of guts to campaign, and we are proud of you.
